Pictures Inside Your Book: Adding Chapter Illustrations (and How Picture Tokens Work)
Illustrations are placed inside chapters at the exact right moment — here's how allocation and picture tokens work.
Pictures inside your book
Most AI writing tools stop at text. Manuskripta can place real illustrations inside your chapters — at the spot in the story or the explanation where a picture genuinely belongs, not sprinkled randomly.
How it works
When you create a book, you can switch on chapter illustrations and set, per chapter, how many images it gets (for example, 2 in chapter 1, 1 in chapter 2, 3 in chapter 7 — anything you like). During generation, the AI reads each chapter and writes a detailed, content-based description of what each illustration should show and where it should appear — a character moment, a diagram, a scene setting. Then it generates the image and splices it into the chapter at the exact right place.
The result isn't 'a book with pictures in it'. It's a book where the pictures are part of the writing.
Picture tokens
Illustrations use picture tokens: one token buys one image. Your plan may include tokens; you can also top up at any time. Tokens cover covers and illustrations alike — they're the book-visuals currency, not a subscription on their own.
Adding illustrations after the book is written
Didn't turn illustrations on at creation? Apply Images lets you add them later to any finished book: choose how many per chapter, and the system reads the existing chapters, generates and places the images — same process as above, just applied to text that already exists.
How many images is the right number?
- Nonfiction / business: one or two per chapter is usually plenty — enough to keep a reader engaged, not enough to look padded.
- Fiction: chapter-opening scenes or key dramatic moments work well; a chapter or so here and there reads like an illustrated edition.
- Children's or educational: more is fine — the visuals are content in these genres.
